Packaging
How coffee is packaged is extremely important for maintaining freshness and for ease of use.
After being roasted, coffee beans become more susceptible to deterioration from light and oxygen – they lose their flavor and aroma. The solution is to keep them stored in an air-tight container or bag away from light. The bags Kobos Coffee uses are ideal storage containers.
Both our 12 ounce and 5 pound bags are made of a foil laminate with a one-way degassing valve. Because roasted coffee produces gas (mostly carbon dioxide) these bags allow us to package and seal the coffee as quickly as possible after roasting. The valve allows coffee gases to escape without letting oxygen in. After the bag has been opened, simply roll it down and secure it shut.
Our portion packs are smaller foil-laminate bags that contain pre-measured amounts of coffee for brewing a single pot. They offer a quick and convenient storage solution. Because portion packs do not have a special valve, freshly roasted coffee is allowed to degas before being sealed into these packages.
